Streaming HD video from PC directly

In order to stream HD video file, I connect ME1 and PC directly through Ethernet port.

1. Use a ethernet cable to connect ME1 and PC.
2. I set the IP of ME1 as 192.168.1.100(Setup ->Network ->Wired Lan Setup -> FIX IP(MANUAL), and IP for PC as 192.168.1.123
3. Setup my shortcut in Setup-> MISC -> Network Browser as below :
Net User ID :
Net Password :
Specific File Server IP : 192.168.123
4. I put the downloaded HD video in a shared video folder.
5. Browser ->NET -> My Shortcuts
6. ME1 can stream HD video smoothly.

Straight wire will do.

I have my ME1 connected to my LAN and setup to connect to a shared PC.
I can view and stream music, pictures and video fine with no drops but once I start to stream the content my network starts to drop internet/intranet access. E.g a constant ping to google.com starts to drop as I play the content, once I stop the ping continues.
Any ideas what I need to change? All devices are set to auto detect and should run at 100mbps.

I have a network drive attached to a network switch which my Windows PC can see and copy to, but the ME1 shows the network drive as empty when I browse to it.

If you have set login ID and PW, then you have to input the data in Network Browser then the drive letter will be /My Shortcuts/

WMV is not supported by ME1.

agree with kevin uk, preview screen makes this unit unusable. Going straight back to Maplins tomorrow

my browse window also shows the drive as empty.

Will the ME1 browse NTFS partitions? Should I see a partition/folder listing to browse through to select files? None is shown.

My drives are shared in Windows Vista and I've entered a valid login name and password. I can see all of the computers on my network and the workgroup.

Suggestions please.

ME1 crashes when trying to play back .avi files from NET. Some work, but most do not (especially the bigger files). It simply goes back to menu screen. Is this a common fault? I have tried 3 different HDD just incase but no difference. Any help

Perhaps the AVI you have is not supported, check what is the encoder.

I too can see ALL my shares using Net Browser, but I see no files of any type in any folders!. I've set ME1 to use DHCP, Is there any other setting up to do... The Network setup is clear as mud :-(
Any help would be most grateful, with much clearer instructions.

Have you select the Media Type first ? Only selected media type will be listed.

As above, my drive can find my workgroup and specific computers easily, but once opened there are no files, folder or otherwise. Even with my firewall completely removed and every sharing option set to open, it cannot find the sharing folders.
what do you suggest?

Perhaps it's login failed issue.
You could try set a login in account for ME1, and set a shortcut for to access the PC.

Setup -> MISC setup -> Network Browser

I would just like to tell everyone the there is a work around for the slow preview issue. If yo put each avi file in a folder of the same name, you can just scroll through them and only look at the preview when you open the folder. I have also made sub folders: Action, Drama, SciFi etc, to make this even friendlier. P.S there is a lot of related topics at http://209.85.135.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://board.gulli.com/thread/947234-externe-multimedia--nas-festplatte-me-1000s-mm--emtec-movie-cube---r/&prev=/search%3Fq%3DHMC-3902%26start%3D40%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN

This is a translated German site.

This is an amazing piece yhat I have been working with for over a month now. Don't give up on it too easily as it is just going to keep getting better as the firmware develops...the potential is quite exciting.

vhcejDoes the HD video need to be in Mpeg2 format, I have tried others but no joy. Is there a firmware upgrade soon to allow the standard format HD to be streamed?
